5 bible verses to get you through this!

During the countless weeks since all of this has began, I find that there are moments, hours, and even days that are harder than others. Those moments of panic, those days of waking up knowing everything is still as it is.. isolated and out of control.. those are the times when I cling to God’s promises, when I open the Bible and find verse after verse until I feel better - Psalms 37:31 “The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip”. I find myself even worrying about going back to normal. Not because I think it’s too soon, but because of how easily this has become my new normal. When I think about going back to work and the kids going back to regular life, I have time of legitimate anxiety. As much as I want to go to their sporting events and run them around to practices, I also enjoy this peace. I often have to take a pause and remember that I should not worry about tomorrow, as tomorrow will worry about itself.. no matter how conflicting and confusing this time is I have to take it moment by moments or my thoughts will get out of control.

I hope that everyone is staying encouraged by God’s word, by his unfailing promises. That you find yourself clinging to them when it seems there is little hope, when your life is falling apart. I know that there have been times when his promises were all I had, where failure of these promises were not an option. God is always faithful. He will provide peace when you set your eyes on him.

Below are the 5 verses that are my go to right now, the ones on repeat in my head as I face those difficult moments or days.

Matthew 6:26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

When I begin to worry about money, or getting my job back.. and the rabbit hole those thoughts lead me down, I have to go back to this verse. Why worry about anything when God is in control. My needs will be met, maybe not in the ways I plan, but it will be done. I am most thankful for this promise, for the reassurance that Gods love for me is greater than that of a bird so his care for me will exceed just the basic necessities.

Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

If you needed proof that God is all knowing, I believe this verse is it. He knew what our flesh would do, and he gave us his wisdom so we could handle it! Do not be anxious about anything!!! Present your requests to God In every situation! When you cough and your anxiety goes up, when your job lays you off for an unknown amount of time, when stores and jobs start opening and on-boarding.. do not let anxiety control your moments, but instead, with thanksgiving, give it to God.

2 Timothy 1:7 - For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind

Just like anxiety, God knew we would be fearful, but that was not the plan he had for us at creation. Fear is sin. So when that fear creeps in, remember who you are, whom you belong to. You belong to a God that created you with a spirit of power! And Love! And when you don’t know what to think or what or who to believe, also remember you were given a sound mind. Pray for wisdom.

Romans 15:13 - May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

During those times of helplessness, hopelessness, remember this verse. I think it speaks for itself. I pray during this time we all feel abounding peace and hope.

Isaiah 26:3 - You will keep perfectly peaceful the one whose mind remains focused on you, because he remains in you.

Another one that speaks for itself. One I hope you keep in your heart to whisper to yourself when times of unrest occurs. When you feel out of control. When anxiety starts overtaking you... remember.. the Lord remains in you and can cast away those feelings.

God Bless,

Samantha Williams
